Florida — Fifteen-time Grammy Award winner, Jimmy Sturr, and American music legend Willie Nelson, have performed together on stage at Farm Aid for four years in support of local farmers. Farm Aid’s 21st annual concert took place on Sept. 23, in Camden , N.J. Sturr, a life-long resident of Florida, has seen first hand what challenges face local farmers year after year. He has teamed up with former Trixter drummer Mark Scott, owner of Florida restaurant The Copper Bottom, in an effort to raise money to support the Farm Aid cause. The Copper Bottom will create a Jimmy Sturr’s Fresh From the Family Farm Special. That means it’s either grown locally, produced by a local family farm, or certified organic; and proceeds benefit Farm Aid. The mission of Farm Aid is to keep family farmers on their land. It believes family farmers are the guarantee for fresh, local food. Farm Aid’s goal is to bring together family farmers and citizens to restore family farm-centered agriculture — family farmers ensure safe, healthful food, protect natural resources, and strengthen local economies. It is these very virtues that strike a chord with some very recognizable locals. The Copper Bottom uses local produce from MandM Farms on a daily basis. Located just over the Florida border in nearby Goshen, MandM Farms is not only the leading area exporter of potatoes and onions; they also offer their Grade A goods to local residents.
