Local businesses support birthing center

WARWICK - Throughout the year, one can always count on the Warwick business community to support fundraising events that benefit St. Anthony Community Hospital, Schervier Pavilion and Mount Alverno Center. And often, in a spirit of mutual cooperation, local merchants will step forward to help promote a particular activity that, although not officially sponsored by the hospital, will benefit people served by one or more of these facilities. Recently Dr. Alex Joanow and Dr. Dominic Aro of Horizon Family Medical Group’s Women’s Health Division decided it would be thoughtful and in keeping with the Horizon Family Medical Group’s philosophy and commitment to its community if they were to present a basket of gifts for their new moms and babies born at St. Anthony Community Hospital’s Kennedy Birthing Center. The doctors teamed up with seven local businesses to develop a congratulatory basket of local Warwick goods and services for all Horizon patients who have their babies at St. Anthony’s award winning Birthing Center. Local businesses that joined Horizon in supporting this gift program were Backyard Grill and Café, Bink - Essential Baby Gear, Corwin Florist, The Inkwell, The Medical Spa of Horizon, Theresa Paul - Avon Products and Penra Wine Cellars. “St. Anthony Community Hospital has been good to me and my family and I welcome any opportunity to reciprocate,” said Penny Steyer, owner of Penra Wine Cellars, who echoed sentiments expressed by the other merchants. “This collection of gifts from our merchants demonstrates their strong and continued support of St. Anthony Community Hospital,” said Joanow. More than 600 babies are born each year at St. Anthony Community Hospital. The Kennedy Birthing Center is a state-of-the-art maternity unit, offering many new options and amenities. It combines modern technology with a family-oriented atmosphere in single birthing suites. The unit also has a C-Section Suite, a large nursery and several gynecological rooms. The hospital also provides comprehensive care with an emphasis on family education. Maternity and newborn care classes on subjects such as Lamaze, parenting, infant and child safety, CPR and breastfeeding are taught by expert, certified instructors to help families prepare for pregnancy, birth and life with a new baby. St. Anthony’s offers a physician referral service and a maternity consultant is available at: 845-987-5300.
