Warwick - Calixto J. Bulnes and Village of Warwick Mayor Michael J. Newhard will receive the Warwick Lions Club’s Robert J. Uplinger Distinguished Service Award for their contributions to the organization and community. Bulnes has served not only the Warwick community but for many years in New York City, helping with the youth programs. He has refereed and umpired for the Police Athletic League and other youth organizations for more than 16 years. Even though he lives in Warwick he still travels to the Bronx to referee. He has served as the Bronx Lions Club president together with many other officers in that club. Today, he is a member of the Warwick Lions Club, a volunteer EMT for the Warwick Ambulance Corps and is head umpire for the Warwick Little League. He also dons a Santa Claus costume and volunteers at holiday time. Newhard, as mayor and downtown merchant, has been involved in many organizations. Both men will be honored at a recognition dinner at the Warwick Valley Country Club on Thursday, May 24. The cost is $40 for per person; please RSVP by Monday, May 22, to Doug Stage at 986-1136 or Sara Werling at 986-1177.
