Lions ring the bell for the Salvation Army

Warwick — For the past 32 years, the Warwick Lions Club has supported the Salvation Army during the holiday season by volunteering to ring the bell. Shoprite and Akins once again gave them permission to setup in front of their locations for two consecutive weekends. Additionally, members from the Warwick Leo’s Club assisted with the bell ringing on several days. The weather held out on all four days, and they only had the chill in the air to contend with. In early 2006, they will present nearly $3,000 in donations to the Salvation Army, thanks to all those who contributed during their campaign. The Warwick Lions Club, started in 1948, is part of the world’s largest service organization, recognized world wide for their work with the blind and visually impaired. Meetings are held at 7 p.m. the first and third Thursday of each month at the Landmark Inn on Route 94 north of Warwick. Anyone interested in joining can call 986-1136, email info@warwicklions.org, or visit www.warwicklionsclub.org.
