Library offers two 1,000 scholarships
WARWICK The Albert Wisner Public Library Foundation is offering two $1,000 college scholarships in a writing competition focusing on the role of a public library in an increasingly global and digitized environment. Applicants will submit an essay of up to 2,000 words. Submissions will be judged on the basis of responsiveness to the topic, overall literacy and grammatical accuracy, relevance to current Warwick area community concerns and other criteria judges think appropriate. Authors of the two essays judged to be best of those submitted will be selected winners and receive the scholarship. Winners of the foundation’s 2007 inaugural scholarship were Amelia Lupinetti and Timothy Sattler, both of Warwick Valley High School, who wrote on the importance of compassionate behavior in the exercise of free speech. Any high school senior who is a resident of the Warwick Valley School District can participate, although the student need not be enrolled in Warwick Valley High School. Essays are due no later than Friday, May 9, with the awards to be announced during the summer. Call Teen Advisor Lisa Laico at 986-1047 for additional information.
