Warwick - Warwick students can be found at the library after school and on the weekend, actively utilizing the library resources for their numerous assignments and research projects as well as browsing shelves for leisure reading. In the month of November Albert Wisner Public Library is offering two programs which target the educational needs and interests of students during November. • On Monday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. the library will present “How to Prepare an Application Essay” with educator Jill Mante. Gaining entrance to just about any college continues to get harder as more and more applicants are applying for a limited number of spaces. How can you improve your chances to being admitted to the college or university of your choice? Mante will provide pointers on writing a strong personal essay as part of the college application. This program is open to all teens residing in the Warwick Valley School District. Registration is required; call 986-1047, ext. 4. • In an effort to help younger students understand their local history, the library is offering “The Nature Wagon” with Kevin Geraghty on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 4:15 p.m. Warwick Valley was once the home of Native Americans who were tribal members of the Algonquin nation. Warwick’s forests, fields, lakes and streams provided for these early residents the shelter and sustenance needed to live and raise a family. Focusing on Native American history, Geraghty will introduce young people to the tools, shelters, foods and customs of the pre-colonial Algonquin and Iroquois people. Hands-on activities and recreated artifacts will be utilized to provide an understanding of everyday life 500 years ago. An emphasis is placed on the reliance on and reverence for the natural world. This program is for students in kindergarten through seventh grade and is open to those students residing in the Warwick Valley School District. Registration is required; call 986-1047, ext. 3, the children’s department.
