Library foundation annual appeal nears goal
WARWICK With almost $16,000 raised, the Albert Wisner Public Library Foundation’s Annual Appeal is nearing its goal to raise $20,000 and receive $10,000 in matching funds from Glenn P. and Susan D. Dickes. At the appeal’s kick-off in December, the Dickes’ stepped forward to offer a match of $1 for every $2 raised for a maximum matching grant of $10,000. To qualify for the maximum the appeal must raise $20,000. Funds from the annual appeal have funded many programs and helped to expand the library’s collection of books, on CD, databases, magazines and DVDs. In addition to purchasing new materials for the library and supporting innovative programs, funds from this year’s appeal will be used to purchase an early literacy station (ELS) for the children’s room. The ELS is a self-contained computer system that includes 34 educational software packages across seven curricular areas specifically created for children ages 18 months to seven years. To make a donation, checks should be made payable to the Albert Wisner Public Library Foundation, 2 Colonial Ave., Warwick. Information packets are available at the library.
