Leo club raises funds for community center

Warwick On Friday, Oct. 7, the Warwick Leo Club, a community-based youth service organization sponsored by the Warwick Lions Club, presented a check for $300 to the Warwick Valley Community Center. The donation was raised by a culmination of Leo Club fundraisers over the past year. Club president Matt Krauze presented the check to Karen Thomas, executive director, and Lisa Pearce, Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services program director, who accepted the donation and thanked the Leo Club for its continued support of the center. One of the many goals of the Leo Club is to develop leadership and organizational skills through service projects, fundraising activities, and social events, upholding the motto of Leadership, Experience, Opportunity. The community center has been home to the club since its first meeting on December 28, 2001. Located at 11 Hamilton Ave. in the village, the center provides affordable social, cultural, educational and recreational activities for all ages, including; Small Fry Preschool, Literacy Volunteers, After School Program, Teen Center, and Life Skills For Kids. The Warwick club meets from 5 to 6 p.m. on the first and third Fridays of each month at the Warwick Valley Community Center and is always seeking new members.
