Lady Spartans win 2;up hoop record to 5-2

FLORIDA — Two wins and a loss marked the Seward Lady Spartan basketball slate last week. Last Monday at home Florida topped non-league foe Roundout Vallley, 56-33. At Tuxedo in another non-leaguer the Spartans dropped a close 35-33 decision. And at Hancock on Friday the Lady Spartans opened Division VI action with a 57-27 win over The Family School. In the home game against the Roundout Valley Ganders, Florida jumped out to a quick l2-7 first-quarter lead, led by five points from Kylie Burnside. Theresa Space added six in the secon quarter as Florida went ahead 24-12 at halftime. Then it was junior Selin Tekin's turn as her seven points in the third quarter ignited a l7-point quarter and a commanding 41-26 lead. Florida then cleared the ben and coasted to the 48-33 verdict. Space led the balanced scoring with l2 points, and Teking notched ll. Justina Moodie had nine points, and Burnside finished with seven points and six assists. At Tuxedo the game was close all the way with Tornadoes holding a 21-l9 half-time edge. That proved to be the final margin as Florida was nipped 35-33. At Hancock it was a far different story. The Spartans roared out to a 28-8 half-time lead and extended that margin to the final 57-27. Space led the way with l9 points as Florida opened Division VI play with the win. The Lady Spartans are 5-2 overall as the season gets into full swing.
