Warwick — The Goodwill Hook and Ladder Ladies Auxiliary is hosting a blood and bone marrow drive, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 30, in honor of Roy Chelsen. Chelsen is an FDNY fire fighter (currently applying for retirement disability) and a former Warwick Fire Department volunteer fire fighter. He has been diagnosed with myeloma (cancer of the bone marrow) and will undergo an autologous (his own) stem cell transplant in early October. Roy has been battling this disease for the last year, through chemotherapy treatments, surgery and numerous transfusion therapies. Participants in the blood drive will donate a pint of blood to help Roy, or someone like Roy, in need of a life-saving blood transfusion, and to register in the national marrow donor program. For more information or to make an appointment, call Heather Gardner at 986-0573.
