Labor unions endorse Rep. Kelly's re-election bid

    Katonah - U.S. Rep. Sue Kelly has received endorsements from four labor groups in her re-election bid against Democrat John Hall. The unions who have announced their support for the Republican incumbent in the 19th Congressional District are: • N.Y.S. International Union of Operating Engineers. The New York chapter, with 35,000 members and 15 affiliated local unions, based their support on “your record of strong support for the issues that are crucial to our members’ livelihoods, including Davis-Bacon prevailing wages, job-creating infrastructure investment and protection of our pension plans,” said William Duffy, union president. • The United Transportation Union. “You have been a strong supporter of working people and issues that affect our Union membership throughout New York State,” wrote Samuel Nasca in a letter to Kelly. ”We are advising all of our members in your district, to vote for you on November 7th.” The union is a transportation organization headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, and affiliated with the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations. The union draws its membership from more than 125,000 active and retired railroad workers, as well as airport, bus and mass-transit employees. • American Federation of Government Employees Local 3740 “Congresswoman Kelly is a staunch supporter of the workers at the U.S. Mint and is committed to fighting for lower taxes,” said Local 3740 President Peter McKeon. “This helps keep jobs right here in the Hudson Valley,” Local 3740 represents worker at the United States Mint at West Point. • Hudson Valley Building & Construction Trades Council “Sue Kelly has always fought for the working people of the Hudson Valley,” said Todd Diorio, president of the council. “She has fought for infrastructure funding for roads, bridges & schools. Her voting record on the issues that affect working trades has been superior. She has always been on our side.” The council consists of 28 local unions, comprising more than 15,000 members.
