WARWICK — Kuiken Brothers recently sponsored its first community blood drive with Community Blood Services on a bloodmobile at their Warwick site. Eighteen employees and community members donated blood to help patients at community hospitals, including St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick. Fourteen of the donors were new donors. Kuiken’s facility in Midland Park, N.J., held a similar drive in December and recommended its Warwick facility also hold a drive. The drives’ success has resulted in a commitment to future drives by Kuiken. Community Blood Services, which serves the needs of patients at more than 30 hospitals in New York and New Jersey, relies on companies like Kuiken to help ensure an adequate blood supply for patients in need. Traditionally, the blood supply dips during the winter months because of inclement weather and winter viruses and other sicknesses that prevent people from giving blood.
