Sugar Loaf — Krafty-Babe’s Café & Boutique, a new café in the hamlet of Sugar Loaf, has officially opened. And it was an extra special opening for owner Kim Liszewski and the members of Parents Run AMOC (Autism Move-A-Thon of Orange County). Liszewski dedicated the outdoor fountain next her store and its proceeds to the group, which provides financial assistance to families in Orange County dealing with autism as well as spreading awareness about this disorder. Many members of the group were on hand for the opening, which featured music by Kyle Hancharick, 16, a local folk musician. Passersby also stopped to listen both to Kyle’s performance as well as Liszewski’s good wishes to AMOC. Liszewski started teaching crafts to a group of children with autism a year ago and was inspired by them. “There are so many autistic children in the county and I want to contribute what I can to what I believe is a very worthy cause,” said Liszewski. “These children are inspiring.” And she should know. Liszewski was a special education teacher for 20 years prior to opening her business. After the grand opening celebration, the listeners enjoyed delicious ice cream and coffees from Krafty-Babe’s yummy treats. The store also sells gifts and personalized ceramics and signs. So, next time you’re in the mood to sit on a front porch and sip a really good cup of coffee, head down to Krafty-Babe’s—and toss the change into the fountain. It’s for a really good cause! Krafty-Babe’s Café & Boutique is located directly across from the Barnsider on Kings Highway in Sugar Loaf.
