Kings students know where in the world

Warwick - The Map-a-thon is an activity that teaches kids about geography while raising money for Student Council projects. Kids ask for pledges from parents, friends and relatives (usually a set amount per country). Therefore the more countries correctly identified, the more money will be raised. Last year we took a school vote and donated money for health supplies to a tribe in Africa. Where will the money go this year? Here are some other activities Kings students are involved with: Student Council is an organization of fourth and fifth graders that are committed to helping the school and the community. The Kings Student Council faculty advisor is Mrs. Pat Reinhardt. The president of Student Council is Holly Tuttle. The vice president is Faith Wilkins. The treasurer is Collette Passafuime. The secretary is David Chu. Student Council has set up a way to keep Kings Elementary students safe in the hallways. Student Council members patrol the hallways at arrival time to help prevent accidents caused by running or other rowdy behavior. Each of the 96 student council members patrols the hallways for 2-3 one-week rotations. This year Kings Outdoor Learning Center has been selected to be part of the Warwick Valley Garden Tour on June 9. The Garden Committee and Student Council are preparing the Outdoor Learning Center for the spring tour. The Outdoor Learning Center has a homemade totem pole and bird walks. For 9/11, Kings students planted 911 bulbs in the Outdoor Learning Center. Sometimes when the weather is nice Kings teachers bring students outside for a lesson in the garden.
