Kings Elementary plans Senior Pal Program
Warwick Kings Elementary School will offer a Senior Pal Program to senior community neighbors, in partnership with the Orange County Office for the Aging, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. Interested seniors can become involved with students from kindergarten to grade five, in various activities The activities include: reading aloud, group discussions, telling a story about their lives, demonstrating a talent sharing a collection or hobby, being interviewed for oral histories, telling about a career or heritage, homework help, helping with a class project, sharing photos or life experiences, assisting in the art room, talk with students about their school, listening to a child read aloud, and helping a child with writing. With support from the federal government, the nationwide program provides seniors with an opportunity to take part in a child’s life within their community. It is a way to remain active after retirement, and meet new people. Volunteers receive cost-free insurance coverage when volunteering or attending a program function, which includes supplemental accident and liability, and excess auto insurance coverage while on volunteer duty. The time commitment is two hours each month, from 1 to 3 p.m. Kings Elementary is located at 199 Kings Highway in Warwick. To learn more about this program, call 987-3150.
