Warwick — Katelyn’s Kause was formed in memory of Katelyn Knebel, a Warwick teen, who passed away two years ago from bone cancer. Katelyn’s Uncle Gary Knebel wanted to raise money in Katelyn’s name. The second annual Katleyn’s Kause Softball Tournament was held on May 13 and 14 with 12 teams participating. The two-day event raised over $13,000 to be donated to local organizations that assist families with sick children. “We raffled off over 75 items, sold delicious food, and had a great turnout for the games,” organizer Gary Knebel said. “We are already planning to make next year’s event even more successful!” Jeff Ahearn, president of the Brian Ahearn Children’s Fund, expressed his appreciation, “BACF is extremely grateful for the generous donation from Katelyn’s Kause, at a time when so many families in our area need assistance. This enables us to continue to support those in need.” Fund raffle tickets are on sale now. The 2006 raffle is loaded with great prizes including a Grand Prize $3,000 Dream Vacation credit. The winning raffle prizes will be drawn at the fund’s dinner dance to be held at the Brookside Manor in Middletown, on Saturday Nov. 18. The dinner will offer a buffet with beer/wine, dancing, and the raffle drawing, for $75 per person. Tickets can be purchased at the following local merchants: Country Chevy, South St. Tire, Warwick Auto Body, Warwick Carwash, The Castle Family Fun Center, FAS Training, Horizon Medical Center, Pecks Liquors, Pennings Farm Market, Cruise Holiday of Orange County, and Dr. Tomasavitch DDS. Proceeds from the raffle and dinner dance will enable the fund to continue providing assistance to families in our area when they need it most, times when they are struggling with extreme hardships.
