Joy in Judaism and baking

The Jewish Women’s Circle gathered on March 8, for a pre-Purim celebration at the home of Kerri Peller in Highland Mills. Close to forty women attended, and enjoyed an evening of introspective discussion, Hamantashin-baking and refreshments. Chana Burston led the group in a workshop exploring “The Jewish Approach to Joy.” “Every month has a unique energy we can access,” Chana explained, “and in this month of Adar we are given the opportunity to obtain a true sense of inner joy.” The women made dough from scratch for the three-cornered pastries and a booklet of exclusive Hamantashin recipes was distributed. Chana offered tips on how to form the shape of the cookies, ideas of unique fillings, and how to “decorate” your cookie with chocolate designs.
