Irish scholarships

    Albany — The legislative office of Assemblywoman Annie Rabbitt, (R,C-Greenwood Lake) has announced that the New York State American-Irish Legislators Society is holding its 8th annual College Scholarship Essay competition for high school juniors and seniors. The society will sponsor two scholarships for the 2007-2008 academic year. New York state high school juniors and seniors who expect to graduate by June 2007 or 2008 are eligible to compete for these scholarships. The scholarships, to be used at an accredited New York state college, include a first-place award of $1,500 and a second-place award of $750. Interested applicants must submit a 1,000-word essay describing “The Diversity of the People of Today’s Ireland,” along with a cover sheet and a letter of nomination from a teacher or guidance counselor. All entries must be postmarked by April 16 and accompanied by a cover form, which can be downloaded from www.emsc.nysed.gov/nysssa/AmIrLeg/flyer.htm. A hardcopy of each entry should be mailed to: Scholarship Review Committee, American-Irish Legislators Society, Legislative Office Building, Room 648, Empire State Plaza, Albany, New York 12248.
