Goshen — The next Swim Kids session at Inspire will begin on Saturday, Sept. 22. Inspire is offering parent/child lessons or individual lessons in its therapeutically heated pool at 2 Fletcher Street, Goshen. Swim Kids is a series of swimming lessons that provide children with developmental disabilities the benefits of exercise and socialization within an aquatic program. The program focuses on water safety and swimming skills, as well as development of self-confidence and self-esteem. The parent/child lessons take place in a group setting that is designed to help parents understand their child’s specific abilities and limitations in the water, and to instruct them on how to best work with and have fun with their child in the water. Instruction by Carole Nolan, a recreation therapist/swim instructor, will address safety skills for children with special needs, how to help the child become more independent in the water, evaluation of flotation devices right for the child, and safe, fun water activities. Parent participation is required. The group lessons are comprised of six one-hour classes for $165. Individual lessons teach pre-swimming and early swimming skills and are provided in 30-minute sessions, available in blocks of five for $175.
