HVPS announces scholarship winners

    Goshen - Francesca Gallardo, a graduate of Warwick Valley High School, and John O‘Connor, a graduate from Goshen High School, are the recipients of the Hudson Valley Polonaise Society's 2005 scholarship awards. Gallardo, the daughter of Mrs. Francis Gallardo of Pine Island, will be entering Hofstra University in Long Island this fall. She will be pursuing a teaching degree in art. She received the society's $1,000 scholarship. O'Connor, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tim O'Connor of New Hampton, will be attending Susquehanna University in Sellinsgrove, Pa., where he plans on studying for a teaching degree in music. He received the society's $500 scholarship. These scholarships were awarded on the basis of scholastic achievement and individual contributions to school and community. As part of their application, the recipients also were asked to describe how their Polish heritage has influenced their lives and how they plan to promote their heritage and culture in the future. The HVPS is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving the beautiful customs and traditions of Polish heritage.
