Hospice opens new residence

Newburgh Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties has completed construction of the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence. The 11-bed residence at 1 Sunrise Lane in Newburgh will be accepting patients in April 2006. An Open House will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, March 13. Once the residence is occupied, privacy regulations will prohibit visits from the general public. Incorporated in 1988, Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties provides specialized care for terminally ill patients. Working in tandem with primary care physicians, and with Dan Grady as president and CEO, Hospice works to enable patients to live every day of life to the fullest, by focusing on comfort and the enhancement of quality of life. A hospice residence provides traditional hospice services in an informal, home-like setting, when services in the home are inappropriate or unavailable. The Kaplan residence was built to provide 24-hour hospice care for residents. Ann Fitzpatrick, R.N., is the director. A person without caregivers will receive the care that others can’t supply. Each patient and family will be offered emotional and spiritual care, to promote healing of the mind and spirit. Dignity and quality of life is the hospice’s goal of all care given.
