WARWICK-The Warwick Valley High School Interact Club contributed $600 to its sponsor, the Warwick Valley Rotary Club, specifying that the money be used for water purification projects in Third World countries. The Interact Club is a volunteer organization of more than 140 Warwick High School students, whose mission is service to local and international charities. "Interact has given important support to many of our projects, last fall it was to help man the Rotary booth at Applefest," said Maggie Verhagen, chair of the Rotary Club's Applefest activities. Through the Rotary International's water purification orogram, inexpensive but very effective gravity filtration mechanisms are installed in villages home by home. Polluted water accounts for 75 percent of all illness in the Third World.
