Hearts-N-Horses exposes community to therapeutic riding

Warwick —For the last five years, Winslow Therapeutic Center held Hearts-N-Horses on Valentines Day. Formerly called Healthy Orange, this event brings in members of the community old and new to “feel” what Winslow is all about. This year, due to the weather, Hearts-N-Horses was pushed back to Feb. 21. Informational tours went on all day and, of course, the main attraction for most of the guests was getting on the horses. Winslow’s guests learned experientially, from the back of their horse, what Therapeutic Riding is all about. They were able to experience what Winslow’s children and adults with special needs do on the horses. Guests enjoyed light refreshments in Winslow’s class rooms, while watching others ride. Gary Weed, a teacher at Warwick Valley High School, was reminded of a quote he had heard some time ago after he had experienced Hearts-N-Horses. He said “I’m not sure who or where it can from. The Quote was ‘success is a journey, not a destination.’ I thought it fit in well for the time and place.” Winslow Therapeutic Center looks forward to this event every year, so that the community can know first hand the many small miracles that take place at Winslow every day.
