Warwick - The Orange County Hare Raisers traveled May 6 to the Sullivan County 4H Rabbit and Cavy Show, which was run by the Working Together 4H Club. The members that attended were Nick Mazzella, Vincent Mazzella, Andy Frey, Sarah Ray, Alex Schutz, Jack Haslam, Pamela Roney, James Amels, Megan Saviello, Nina Saviello and Lindsay Theodore. We did extremely well in the two shows as well as in the Rabbit and Cavy Showmanship and Skillathon. In the Cavy show, we had Jack Haslam win Best of Breed (BOB) American Satin, Sarah Ray win BOB Teddy Satin and White Crested, Best Home Grown Cavy and Best Old Timer Cavy, and Nina Saviello win Best Pet. Then, Jack Haslam went on to win Best In Show with his American Satin and Sarah Ray won Best Reserve in Show with her Teddy Satin. In the Rabbit Show, Alex Schutz won BOB and Best Reserve of Breed (BROB) American Fuzzy Lop, BOB Mini Rex and BROB Tan. Lindsay Theodore won BOB and BROB Mini Lop, Best Old Timer Rabbit, and BOB Dwarf Hotot. Jack Haslam won BOB Himalayan, and Pam Roney won BOB and BROB Polish. Nick Mazzella won BOB Harlequin and BOB Rex and Sarah Ray won BOB Florida White. Then, Lindsay Theodore went on to win Best In Show with her Mini Lop. The Hare Raisers also did very well in the knowledge competitions for both Rabbits and Cavies. These competitions are the Skillathon, which tests your overall knowledge of your species and Showmanship, which judges your ability to speak in front of a judge about all of the aspects of your rabbit or cavy. In the beginner division, James Amels took first place in both the skillathon and showmanship competitions. In the intermediate division, Nick Mazzella placed second in showmanship. In the advanced division, Lindsay Theodore placed first in the skillathon and second place in showmanship and Pamela Roney placed third in the skillathon. Congratulations to all who attended.
