Hall nominates local students to attend U.S. service academies
Goshen A group of local students has been nominated by U.S Rep. John Hall to attend U.S. service academies as members of the Class of 2012. If accepted, the nominees will attend either the Air Force Academy, the Military Academy at West Point, the Merchant Marine Academy or the Naval Academy. The local nominees are: Jesse Bicknell, Westtown (already accepted by the Air Force Academy); Kevin Connolly, Warwick; Kevin Lees, Goshen; Jason McCarty, Monroe; Terrence Moore, Goshen; Tara Mulligan, Monroe; Daniel Prial, Warwick (already accepted by the Military Academy); and Laura Ruiz, Goshen (already accepted by the Military Academy). “I have the fullest confidence that each of these outstanding students has the potential to excel not only as military officers, but as members of their communities and as American leaders,” said Hall. In order to qualify for nomination, applicants undergo a rigorous review process. They were judged based on their scholastic aptitude via school transcripts and standardized test scores, a review of extracurricular and athletic activities, and the strength of personal and professional recommendations. Each applicant also had a formal interview with Hall’s Academy Nominations Review Board. Any student interested in applying for a nomination from Hall for the classes of 2013 must file an application with the academy of interest by at least his or her junior year of high school. After doing so, candidates may request a nomination packet from Hall’s Goshen office at: Orange County Government Center, c/o Matthew Schwartz, 255 Main St., Room 3232G, Goshen, 10924.
