GWL remains a familiar refrain at WV School Board
Pine Island - Although several topics were discussed, the one that generated the most public comment seemed to be the possible transfer of Greenwood Lake’s tuition-paying high school students from George F. Baker High School in Tuxedo to Warwick Valley High School. One resident said Greenwood Lake is “only interested in what they can save for themselves, not what they can do for other communities.” The discussion ended when Board President Michael Meinhardt reminded those in attendance at the meeting in Pine Island Elementary School that no decision had been made because the necessary information has not yet come in from the state. He described the investigation as “due diligence” so that the Warwick Valley community will be able to make an educated decision on the matter. The issue would have to be approved by voters in both the Warwick Valley and Greenwood Lake school districts. In other business: Several board members met with state Sen. Thomas P. Morahan, R-New City, and Assemblywoman Annie Rabbitt, R-C-Greenwood Lake, to discuss the new state aid formula, which may among to only a 3 percent increase.
