Greenwood Lake - The Village of Greenwood Lake will receive $1,667.48 in federal funds through a national program that enables local police departments to purchase bulletproof vests and improve safety measures for local officers. According to a press release from U.S. Rep. Sue Kelly's office on Wednesday, the funding comes through the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program, which is administered by the U.S. Justice Department. The program is designed to assist smaller police departments with smaller budgets, particularly those in more rural areas like the Hudson Valley. The grants cover up to 50 percent of the costs. Greenwood Lake, which lists 20 officers in its department, request five new or replacement vests in its application, according to information from Kelly's office.
