Goats available for adoption at Warwick Shelter

WARWICK - You can get your goat at the Warwick Animal Shelter. They make wonderful pets. That’s the message from Suzyn Barron, president of the Warwick Valley Humane Society. Thanks to a grant from the Warwick Savings Foundation and permission from the landowner, the Town of Warwick, the Society’s Animal Shelter was able to build an adjacent pen and provide a temporary shelter and rescue area for farm and wild animals. “Our very first guests last year,” said Barron, “were two runaway sheep from a large farm in Chester.” Now the Shelter has six goats, who are up for adoption, all living comfortably in the new area. The new residents, classified as Nubian/Boer mix, make great pets, horse companions or weed eaters. According to Barron, they are fun and love the company of other goats or horses. To maintain and house a variety of rescued animals, both wild and domesticated, the Warwick Valley Humane Society maintains a Wildlife Recovery Fund to help defray the costs of medical and special dietary needs of wildlife, and a General Fund for everything else.
