Girl Scouts hold Family Safety Day with help from O&R and county police and fire departments

    NEW HAMPTON-The Sarah Wells Girl Scout Council, Orange County Fire Training Center and Orange and Rockland Utilities will present the seventh annual “Family Safety Day” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Orange County Fire Training Center at 9 Training Center Lane in New Hampton, rain or shine. The free event is designed to promote safety awareness in our community. Families are encouraged to participate in the many hands-on activities demonstrated by over 100 volunteers from local agencies. Children can be finger printed and have photo ID cards completed. Tours will be available of the Kid’s Fire Safety Trailer, with information on ways to escape a home in case of emergencies. The K-9 Unit will be demonstrating training and rescue techniques used in the line of duty. Other activities include a puppet show, live fire and rescue demonstrations, and personal safety instructions. Some of the agencies joining in the event will include Mobile Life Support Services, American Red Cross, New York State Police, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, HAZMAT Response Team, and local fire departments and volunteer ambulance corps.
