Rogowski Farm offers ‘Stinking Rose Bouquet’ for Valentine’s Day Pine Island - The W. Rogowski Farm in Pine Island is offering “The Stinking Rose Bouquet” for Valentine’s Day: A bouquet of baby green garlic ecologically grown in the farm’s hi-tunnels, carefully wrapped in rose-colored paper and paired with a keepsake recipe booklet. The booklet includes detailed instructions on how to care for the bouquet, a history of garlic and recipes for preparing baby green garlic. According to farmer Cheryl Rogowski, garlic has been affectionately known as the stinking rose due to its aromatic perfume others that the bottom of the head looks like a rose. It has been recognized for its beneficial qualities as an aid in lowering blood pressure, cholesterol and preventing heart attacks. Green garlic is a very delicate flavor and is the perfect ingredient for aioli, pesto and other dishes where you want all the flavor of garlic without overpowering the dish. “Green garlic has a sophisticated elegance to the palate,” Rogowski said. Usually green garlic is only available at Farmers Markets in spring. The Rogowski family has been raising this specialty gourmet treat in tunnels on their farm using only solar energy. Bouquets will be available for pick up Saturday, Feb. 10, at the farm. They also will be available at Penra Wine & Spirits at 36 Main St. in Warwick (across from Akin’s Drug Store) on Tuesday, Feb. 13. Each bouquet is $19.95. To order, contact the Rogowski’s by phone at 845-258-4574 or by e-mail at info@rogowskifarm.com. The farm store is currently open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The W. Rogowski Farm raises more than 250 varieties of produce on 150 acres of Black Dirt farmland. It is the only certified naturally grown farm in the Town of Warwick, which means that only naturally occurring herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers are used. For example, their herbs and garlic are grown in fields where no chemicals of any sort have been used in more than 15 years. The W. Rogowski family has been in operated for more than 50 years.
