Frederick Franck art to be erected on Hallowed Ground

Warwick Dr. Frederick Franck has a special place in the hearts of Warwickians. He came to Warwick in 1959 and created Pacem in Terris, a place for meditation and spirituality that contains many of Franck’s sculptures. Soon, though, one of Franck’s most beautiful and thought-provoking works will greet all at one of the gateways into the village, Hallowed Ground Park. The Warwick Conservancy requested that the village allow its members to erect the sculpture, “Seven Generations,” on the Hallowed Ground park, adjacent to Park Avenue School on Route 17A and Forester Avenue. Funds were donated for the construction of the sculpture. The village will provide some assistance placing it. According to Dr. Richard W. Hull, a trustee with the Conservancy, replicas of the sculpture are found in many public places, including New York City’s Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and municipal parks in Holland, Italy, Germany, and Japan. It can also be found on several college campuses. “We believe Seven Generation’ has special significance in that it is a physical representation of the ancient Great Law of the Haudenosaunee, the Six Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy: In all our deliberations, we must be mindful of the impact of our decisions on the seven generations to follow ours’,” said Hull in a letter to the Village Board. “In other words, the policies we formulate and implement today should be designed with a sense of vision and of their impact on future generations,” he added.
