Forums to focus on flooding in Orange County

    Washingtonville — A series of free public educational forums about flooding in Orange County is being offered by the Orange County Water Authority. The first forum, "Flooding 101," is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6. It aims to help residents and professionals understand what causes streams and rivers to flood, and gives an overview of the area's floodplains, flood maps and regulations. Presentations will be given by two members of the faculty at the Department of Geography and Environmental Engineering at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point faculty as well as senior staff from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Presentations will be followed by an expert panel to field questions from the audience. Seating for this forum is limited. To reserve a seat, call 615-3868.
