FLORIDA — The Florida Public Library will sponsor its 12th annual Tellabration! on Saturday, Nov. 19, beginning at 2 p.m. Tellabration!, a worldwide benefit day of storytelling, is a trademarked program of the National Storytelling Network and takes place in more than 300 locations. Tellabration! is traditionally held on the Saturday before Thanksgiving and is the culmination of National Storytelling Week. Locally, the event is produced by the members of the Black Dirt Storytelling Guild which meets monthly at the library. “Home Fires” is the theme of this year’s event, inspiring storytellers to share personal stories, folklore and superstitions, myths, legends and fond memories. A grab bag of other kinds of stories are sure to pop up as well. Founding Guild members Anne Hanson, Eileen Stelljes, Debra Weber and Madelyn Folino will be featured tellers. The Guild members cordially invite everyone to join them for some great old-fashioned entertainment. They hope their tales from around the world will stimulate listeners to share stories around their holiday dinner tables. Attentive listeners age 5 and up are invited to attend. All children must be accompanied by parents. The suggested donation is a canned or non-perishable food item for the Florida Food Pantry. A potluck supper for all participating storytellers will be held after the show. For information or directions, to volunteer as a teller, call the library at 845-651-7659.
