Florida — Five members of Girl Scout Troop 315 from the Village of Florida received their Silver Awards during ceremonies last month at Monroe-Woodbury High School. The five young women earned the second highest award a Girl Scout can achieve for community projects ranging from making wooden benches for the Florida Little League to erecting a fence and painting kennels at Warwick Valley Animal Shelter. According to Troop Leader 315 Martina Brosnan, Silver Award projects gives the Girl Scout Cadettes the chance to show that they can be a leader who is organized, determined and dedicated to improving her community. The Silver Award recipients are: Melissa Barth, a freshman at Christian Academy, made wooden benches for Florida Little League. Sinead C. Brosnan, a freshman at S.S. Seward Institute, poured a concrete base for which a shelter was erected; this shelter will be used for injured wildlife. Kathryn Latimer, a freshman at S.S. Seward, painted 10 kennels at the Warwick Valley Animal Shelter. Brittany Milz, a freshman at S.S. Seward Institute, made wooden benches for Florida Little League. Inga Squillace, a freshman at S.S. Seward, erected a fence at the Warwick Valley Animal Shelter. “Earning the award,” troop leader Brosnan wrote in an e-mail exchange with The Warwick Advertiser, “puts you among an exceptional group of girls who have used their knowledge and leadership skills to make a difference in the world.”
