First Fastest Kid' in Sugar Loaf a big hit

Sugar Loaf Nearly 50 runners toed the line on Columbus Day for Sugar Loaf’s First Annual Fastest Kid on the Block. “We were really happy with the turnout, considering the fact that we postponed the event twice because of rain,” said event organizer Nick Zungoli. The races were held as a fundraiser for Sugar Loaf’s Community Vision project and more importantly, as a way to help bring the community together for a fun morning. Warwick Valley Track and Cross-Country coach, Rich Furst, acted as the official starter for all the age group races and many volunteers stepped forward to help make the event successful. The fastest time of the day was turned in by Brenden Hedding, covering the 50 meters in 7.27 seconds. Age group winners and top finishers for the 50 meter sprint down King’s Highway included: five, six, seven year old boys: Nicholas Parchinski, 9.26 seconds. Five, six, seven year old girls: Greer Liguori, 9.21 seconds. Eight, nine year old boys: tie, William Helbeck and Joseph Pezzello, 8.2 seconds. Eight, nine year old girls: Sinead Brosnan, 8.6 seconds. Ten, eleven year old boys: Justin Giannino, 7.96 seconds. Ten, eleven year old girls: Brittney Humenanski, 8.74 seconds. Twelve, thirteen, fourteen year old boys: Brenden Hedding, 7.27 seconds.
