Goshen baby is first born this year at St. Anthony Warwick — Some things are worth waiting for. That’s what the new parents and the hospital staff are saying about Zachary Jacob Scialampo, the first baby born in 2006 at St. Anthony Community Hospital’s Kennedy Birthing Center. For the first time in five years, no babies were born at St. Anthony’s on New Year’s Day. So when Zachary Jacob was born at 9:07 a.m. on Jan. 3, his parents, Joe and Kelly Scialampo of Goshen, were surprised to learn that their 8-pound-3-ounce son was the first this year. The next day, Yvonne Villanueva, a promotional coordinator for Babies “R” Us in Middletown, presented Zachary’s parents with a basket of gifts from her store, including clothing and accessories as well as boxes of announcements and thank-you cards. “We’re always thrilled to announce the first baby born at our hospital each year,” said Leah Cerkvenik, RN, executive vice-president/administrator of St. Anthony Community Hospital. “But we’re also happy for all the babies who arrive here throughout the year.” More than 600 babies are born each year at St. Anthony Community Hospital.
