Firefighters teach safety to school children

Story and photos by Ed Bailey. Greenwood Lake - During National Fire Prevention Week firefighters visited Greenwood Lake schools to teach the children about safety, including how to dial 911. On Friday night, Oct. 12, the firefighters held a open house at the fire house, where they gave demonstrations and served hot dogs and soda. The fire boat in the center of the room delighted the kids, as did a safety house with make-believe smoke to simulate a house on fire. The children had to follow the safety instruction to find two ways to exit the house. They climbed through the windows and descended a ladder to safety.
