FLORIDA-Village of Florida firefighters battled a fire Tuesday evening that destroyed a large building at Cavallaro Farms in the Town of Goshen. Cavallaro Farms, located at 41 Big Island Road in the Town of Goshen, is one of the area's larger onion growing and shipping operations. Prior to the fire, the building was being used for equipment repair and storage. The fire was brought under control in about one and a half hours despite windy conditions that hampered firefighting efforts. Florida firefighters were assisted by Warwick, Pine Island, Goshen, Chester, Slate Hill and New Hampton Fire Departments, as well as the Florida and Pine Island Ambulance Corps. Florida Fire Chief Mike Coleman expressed his gratitude for the help of these neighboring communities. No one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
