Few surprises in local races

But 37 votes separate Spencer and Lambros in 8th county legislative district contest Warwick Results of Tuesday’s elections had no real surprises as Republicans maintained their hold on town positions as well as county offices. Republican/Conservative candidate Peter D. Barlet will remain as town justice, defeating Democrat/Independent Richard D. Farina. Marjorie “Meg” Quackenbush will take over in the Town Clerk’s office as incumbent Karen Lavinski retires at the end of the year. Quackenbush was challenged by Democrat Denise Bulnes. Two of the three incumbent county legislators who represent Warwick - Bernard Winstanley of Greenwood Lake and Michael R. Pillmeier of Florida - are headed back to legislative chambers in Goshen. In the 10th district race, Winstanley defeated Cedric Glasper by a vote of 1,680 to 1,093. (All results are unofficial until the Board of Election verifies all ballots.) Pillmeier retained his 3rd district seat by outpolling Janne Sommer by 2,006 to 1,236 votes. A third, Dimitrios Lambros of Sugar Loaf, trailed Democrat Noel Spencer, a Chester town board member, by 37 votes in unofficial tallies. District wide, Spencer received 1,967 votes while Lambros received 1,930. Final results depend on counting absentee and other provisional ballots. Town councilmen Mickey Shuback and Floyd DeAngelo were unopposed in their relection bids. Brenda M. Faulls also returns as the town’s receiver of taxes. She, too, had no opposition. County Executive Edward Diana scored a landslide over his Democratic challenger, Michael Edelstein, to win a second term as head of the county. Orange County Family Court Judge Democrat Debra Kiedaisch of Greenwood Lake retained her seat on the bench, one she has held since 1995. Republican Lori J. Currier Woods of Monroe won the seat that was created earlier this year by the state Legislature. They defeated Republican Christine Krahulik of Warwick and Democratic challenger Carla Wise.
