Village sets concert schedule Warwick — Spring is definitely here—the Warwick Valley Farmer’s Market will open this Sunday, May 21, for its 2006 season. Farmers from throughout the area will be bringing their fresh grown fruits, vegetables, flowers, and homemade cheeses and baked goods to the South Street parking lot every Sunday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., from now through October. If the market is opening, summer is not far behind, and for many that means concerts in the park. Village Trustee Bill Iurato announced the village’s concert schedule earlier this week. On June 17, the New York Swing Exchange comes to Stanley-Deming Park. This group is a Warwick favorite. This 17-piece orchestra, along with vocalist, Maureen Morrissey, will have the audience dancing to sounds of the “Big Band” era. The band consists of five reeds, four trombones, four trumpets and four rhythm musicians. Add Morrissey on vocals and you’ll agree that big bands are back. On July 8, Mark Egan and Jeff Ciampa, two of the best jazz musicians you can hear anywhere, will take the stage. Egan and Ciampa have both played with some of the biggest names in the music business. Egan is one of the most respected electric bassist in the music business. He has three platinum and three gold records to his credit. He is the founder of Wavetone Records and his career includes producing and recording. He is considered on the forefront of contemporary music. Ciampa has toured the world and played many festivals and jazz clubs. He is an accomplished writer and operates his own recording study, Natushabi Music, here in Warwick. Incorporating Jazz, Rhythm and Blues and Rock styles, Ciampa has created a style that is both contemporary and traditional. The park will be jumping on Aug. 12 when the Latin sounds of Sonando return to the concert series. This group was a huge hit last year, drawing one of the biggest crowds all summer. They have earned a reputation as the Hudson Valley’s premier Latin band. Sonando has performed in clubs, community festivals, benefit concerts, on radio and television, as well as the Puerto Rican Day Parade in NYC. Have you been to the new music store in town yet? In addition to having all the necessary equipment, there are some pretty talented people there. On August 19, the Blue Grass Band from the shop will take the stage. Opening for the band is Kyle Hancharick, a 15-year-old folk singer from Warwick. He has played many local venues, including the Warwick Valley Winery, Caffe ala Mode, Goshen’s Great American Weekend and the Lycian Centre’s summer concert series. Rounding out the series is a longtime Warwick favorite — Dick Wells—on Sept. 10. Wells is the voice of WTBQ radio on Saturday mornings and has sung with some of the best during his long career. All concerts start at 7:30 p.m. except the September 10 concert, which kicks off at 3 p.m.
