Family Hanukkah party at Colonial Lanes
Chester Hanukkah is a time to spend with family and friends, which is what prompted the Chabad directed by Rabbi Pesach and Chana Burston to host a Hanukkah Bowl from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28 , at Colonial Lanes on Route 17M in Chester. The event will include a Chanukah art project, Hanukkah games, a video presentation, a hot buffet dinner, traditional Chanukah latkahs and donuts, and a raffle. A special feature this year will be a Chanukah Balloon Sculpting show. The eight-day Jewish holiday celebrates religious freedom. Over 2000 years ago, when invading Greeks tried to force the Jews to abandon their faith in one G-d, the Jews, led by the Maccabees, drove out the vastly superior Greek army. The Jews proceeded to cleanse the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, but when they went to kindle the menorah, as prescribed by scriptural law, they realized to their dismay that only one cruise of oil was left, just enough for one night. A miracle occurred, and the oil lasted a full eight nights, giving them sufficient time to produce new pure oil. Admission is $8, which includes bowling, shoes, food and programs, or $5 for food and program alone.
