Warwick — On Monday, Oct. 1, members of the family of Heinz Hoefs along with residents and staff of Mount Alverno Center, gathered for a celebration and dedication of 14 comfortable armchairs. The chairs, which serve residents who are waiting for an appointment outside the nurse’s office, had been donated in memory of Mount Alverno resident Heinz Hoefs who passed away last October. “My father never liked the bench chairs in this waiting area,” said his daughter Hilda Card. “These new chairs are higher and with their arm rests, they are better for older people who may have trouble lifting with their legs but who have good arm strength.” It was not the first time that members of the Hoefs family had demonstrated their support for Mt. Alverno Center. A couple of years ago, employees at Mount Alverno Center were decorating the center for the upcoming Christmas Holidays when the Hoefs family realized that the staff couldn’t be everywhere at the same time. The family members offered to help. “We decided to adopt a floor and help decorate it for the holidays,” said Hoefs’ daughter Hilda Card. And naturally, she and her sisters Annagret Hoefs and Renate Rennie adopted the 4 floor where her father and mother lived. They then spent the better part of a day decorating the hallways and common areas of that residential floor. “I cannot tell you how much we appreciate the generosity of the Hoefs family throughout all these years,” said Mount Alverno Center Administrator Lisa Fedorka. “Our residents will enjoy these chairs for years to come and we will always remember all the support we received from this wonderful family.” Mount Alverno Center is part of the Warwick Campus of Bon Secours Charity Health System. The facility shares that Campus with St. Anthony Community Hospital and Schervier Pavilion Skilled Nursing facility. Mount Alverno’s goal is for each resident to maintain a maximum level of independence. Individualized care plans are designed to help residents reach their utmost daily potential. Services are based on a team approach and are provided by highly competent professionals dedicated to the comfort and safety of the residents.
