Everybody off the streetsit's Halloween time!
Traditional parade will follow new route Warwick A Halloween curfew will be in force in the Village of Warwick, as well as the Town of Warwick. All those under 18 must be off the streets and out of public parks from 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, through 6 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, and again Wednesday night at 8 until Thursday morning, Nov. 1, at 6 a.m. The curfew follows the pattern of the past few years, as the police and town and village officials try to keep order on nights that sometimes have been anything but orderly. “We will have beefed-up patrols both nights, especially in certain neighborhoods,” said Warwick Police Chief Thomas McGovern. Those neighborhoods include classic Halloween haunts, such as Homestead Village and Cascade Creek, where trick-or-treaters are numerous. In the past, many older kids bent more on mischief than on candy have wreaked havoc for residents and police. In years past, pranks ranged from silly to destructive and include some that were dangerous, including blowing up a mailbox. Residents in some neighborhoods have awakened to what one neighbor describe as a war zone, with eggs, egg cartons, shaving cream and trash strewn all over lawns and streets. The curfew and increases in police patrols have curtailed some of the destructive behavior in recent years. But neither the police nor village and town officials are willing to drop their guard. This year’s Halloween parade will have a different route from past years. The parade will begin at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31. Line up will be on Church Street, across from the Village Hall. Parade participants will walk down Main Street and then make a left onto Railroad Avenue, where costume judging will take place. Church Street, Main Street, and Railroad Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic during the parade. The parade is sponsored by the Warwick American Legion Post #215,
