When John Hearle of Greenwood Lake recently discovered that his house was on fire, this unusual antique truck body mounted on pontoons (called a “troat” by those in the know) was his only means of transportation to the mainland so that he could call for help. His cell phone had been destroyed. Hearle lives on Fox Island, also known as Pine Island, which is located on the south end of Greenwood Lake. And the only access to the mainland is by boat.
