Driver charged with DWI after Jeep runs over sign
Chester The Town of Chester Police were conducting a road check on Kings Highway on Sunday, near a street filled with pedestrians, when a Jeep approaching them left the road. The vehicle ran over a speed limit sign and re-entered the road with the sign perched on top, according to the police. The operator, Nancy Keefe, 54, of Chester, nearly did not stop for the road check, police said. The officers on the road detail were able to stop her before she entered the busy Sugar Loaf hamlet. They arrested her for numerous charges, including driving while intoxicated (DWI), aggravated DWI (because her blood-alcohol content was greater than .18 percent), reckless endangerment, reckless driving, obstructing governmental administration, speed not reasonable and prudent, operating without proof of insurance, refusal to take a breath screening test, improper license plate, and moving from a lane in an unsafe manner. “With the large crowd in attendance at Sugar Loaf had Keefe not been stopped by officers, we could have had a very dangerous situation,” Police Chief Brian Jarvis said.
