Pine Island - Nine dancers performed Eve McClanahan’s choreography at Pier 63 as part of Fielday on Saturday, July 15. “I have an exceptional group of dancers who had an opportunity to dance on a barge in New York City, with the Hudson River as a backdrop, and the Statue of Liberty to their right,” said McClanahan, the owner and director of Black Dirt Dance in Pine Island. “This is an experience they will remember for a lifetime.” Pier 63 is located on the Hudson River at 23rd Street. Fielday is an opportunity for artists to develop their work through performance. The Field provides the performance space, technical staff, publicity materials and low-cost video services. Artists have 12 minutes for set-up, performance, and strike, and receive one 15-minute technical rehearsal prior to the performance. Sign-up is on a first come, first served basis. On July 15, there were 15 participating artists. McClanahan’s dancers performed an eight-minute dance titled: “Reticent.” “The dancers were so open that they really were able to understand the integrity of the piece,” McClanahan said. “They communicated the subtleties of the dance, and were able to tackle the dramatic edge as well as the technical. We will continue to dance in more NYC venues. Participating dancers were Katie Buckley, Heather DeVries, Alanna Dickten, Leah Giles, Anna Greenblatt, Katie Gulak, Morgan Nuzzolese, Elizabeth O’Connor and Elisabeth Stampfel.
