Dance company entertains Schervier Pavilion residents

WARWICK On Sunday, Feb. 26, members of the Orange County School of Dance’s “Little Feet Dance Company” visited Schervier Pavilion. The children, ages 9 to 18, were there to entertain the residents, families and staff of the Warwick skilled nursing facility. “We do this every year,” said Joanna Markowitz, director of the Orange County School of Dance. “The children love to perform for the residents, and everybody has a wonderful time.” The performance ranged from the classic ballet of Swan Lake, to examples of modern dance. Since its inception in 1996, “Little Feet” has performed for over 7,000 audience members at elementary schools, nursing homes, art festivals, county fairs, and at Woodbury Commons, local colleges and Storm King Sculpture Park. “We are thankful to Joanna Markowitz and her students,” said Kari Call, a certified therapy recreation specialist. “Art and entertainment have an important value in long term care at Schervier Pavilion.” All programs at the pavilion are designed to meet the psychosocial and physical needs of the residents with activities that are not only enjoyable but are also intended to achieve this goal.
