Warwick - At a recent Epiphany Party, St. Stephen’s parish presented its annual Volunteer of the Year awards to Ed Scharfenberger and his daughter, Miriam Muse. Scharfenberger is the founder of the St. Stephen - St. Edward Educational Trust. He also has spearheaded efforts regionally and nationally on behalf of Catholic education. Muse, a member of the St. Stephen’s Parish Council, co-founded the Parish Gift Shop, volunteers as a religious education teacher and helps with the coordination of Easter and Christmas flower sales and church decoration. “We congratulate Ed and Miriam and we thank all of our superb volunteers who make St. Stephen’s such a special parish,” stated Father Michael McLoughlin, pastor. “One does these things without any thought of an award,” said Scharfenberger, a retired attorney who has had a lifelong commitment to Catholic education. “I thank the members of my family for their good example of always giving back to their parish and community,” Muse added.
