County to accept hazardous waste on Sept. 16 and 17

    GOSHEN — The next countywide household hazardous waste collection will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Delano-Hitch Recreation Center, 401 Washington St., in Newburgh. Farms, schools, small businesses and governmental agencies must pre-register at 291-2664 to bring their hazardous waste materials on Friday, Sept. 16. "We can all do our part to preserve the environment by taking advantage of this free service," said Pete Hammond, Orange County deputy commissioner of Environmental Facilities and Services The Orange County Sheriff's Office will be on-site for Operation Safe Scripts to accept expired or unwanted pharmaceuticals, both prescription and over-the-counter.
