Cornell offers debtor education course

    Middletown — Cornell Cooperative Extension of Orange County has announced an Instructional Course for Debtor Education. This three hour, classroom-based course meets the legal requirement for personal finance education for anyone who has filed Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy in the state of New York. The course provides practical, unbiased strategies to reduce spending, increase savings, and manage credit wisely. It will cover the following topics: Goals and Decisions, Managing Financial Resources, Managing Credit, Managing Risk and Consumer Information. Participants who complete this training and the required course evaluation form, will receive a certificate that documents they have satisfied the personal education requirement of the Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy filing process. The Middletown workshop will be held at Cornell Cooperative Extension, 1 Ashley Avenue, Community Campus, Middletown from 9:00 a.m. to noon on the following dates: Wednesday, Sept. 6; Wednesday, Oct. 11; Wednesday, Nov. 8; and Wednesday, Dec. 13.
